The Electoral Commission is the independent body responsible for overseeing elections and regulating political finance across the UK. As Wales Commissioner, you will sit on the Commission's Board, helping to provide strategic leadership and oversight while acting as its senior ambassador in Wales.
This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of democracy by ensuring the Commission's work reflects Wales's democratic, political and institutional context. You will work closely with political leaders, public bodies, electoral administrators and other stakeholders, helping to maintain public confidence in elections and democratic processes.
The Role
As a member of the Commission Board, you will:
-
Help shape the Commission's strategic direction and priorities across the UK.
-
Provide constructive challenge and scrutiny as a non-executive Board member.
-
Act as a visible and credible ambassador for the Commission in Wales.
-
Build relationships with senior political, governmental and civic stakeholders.
-
Support delivery of the Commission's emerging Wales Corporate Plan.
-
Promote the highest standards of integrity, transparency and public accountability.
The successful candidate may also represent the Commission before Senedd and Parliamentary committees and in the media when required.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking an independent and credible leader with:
-
A strong track record of achievement in Wales through executive and/or non-executive leadership.

A deep understanding of Wales's political, public sector and democratic landscape.

Sound judgement, objectivity, integrity and the confidence to provide challenge and scrutiny.
-
A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
-
An understanding of Wales's bilingual context and the importance of the Welsh language in public life and democratic participation.
*Professional proficiency in Welsh is desirable.

To protect the Commission's independence and impartiality, certain restrictions apply. Individuals who are members of a registered political party, have held specified elected offices, or have been significant political donors within the past five years are not eligible for appointment. Full details are provided in the candidate information pack.
Diversity and Inclusion
We are committed to attracting candidates from a broad range of backgrounds, experiences, communities and regions across Wales. Applications are encouraged from individuals who can contribute diverse perspectives to the work of the Commission and help ensure that democracy works for everyone.
