Executive

£98,000 - £113,925

Main office located in Cardiff
From summer 2025, the Welsh Government will establish a new arm’s length organisation - currently called Professional Learning and Leadership Education Wales - to support the education workforce through high-quality professional learning and leadership development.
In close partnership with the Welsh Government, the national body will work with key stakeholders across the education sector to ensure its work is relevant to the needs of the profession.
Informed by sector feedback and a review of education partners’ roles, the organisation will lead a significant shift in how professional learning, enquiry, and leadership support are commissioned, designed, and delivered nationally.
To lead this work, the Welsh Government is looking to appoint a Chief Executive who will provide strategic leadership, shape the organisation’s direction, and ensure it delivers meaningful and measurable impact for the education workforce and learners across Wales.
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience of leading an organisation of significant scale with the ability to act as an Accounting Officer.
- Have the skills to develop a culture of continuous improvement internally and externally.
- Understand and have an interest in Welsh Government education policy.
- Have a strong track record of building effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at leadership level with the aim of developing credibility with practitioners and leaders across all education sectors in Wales.
The Welsh Government is committed to becoming a fully bilingual organisation by 2050. Welsh language skills are, therefore, clearly an asset for this post. However, in respect of a successful candidate who does not have Welsh language skills, the Government support the individual to develop their Welsh on appointment.
As an Equal Opportunities Employer and a Disability Confident organisation, the Welsh Government actively encourages applications from disabled people and operates a guaranteed interview scheme for disabled people (as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
