Cardiff International Airport Ltd
Wales’ national airport and a key gateway to the UK, Cardiff International Airport Ltd (CIAL) is a business that has undergone considerable transformation; the result of which has secured widespread support and praise from businesses, opinion formers, government, local community stakeholders and the wider public. Over the course of 2018, CIAL saw an 8% increase to passenger numbers; representing a 60% growth since the change to Welsh Government ownership. Its direct economic contribution to the region is over £163m and it successfully posted its first positive EBITDA in 8 years. A significant player in the economy of south Wales, CIAL sustains over 1,900 aviation related jobs. Of its c.1.6m passengers, 30% are inbound visitors to Wales.
Articulated via its Master Plan, its vision is to be a pioneering Airport business, making Wales proud, and its purpose is to continue to transform its business through operational excellence, with its team and customers at the heart of everything it does. It aims to grow from its current 1.6m passengers per annum to 3 million and beyond. It will ensure growth is balanced with local environmental and social concerns, recognising the important role sustainability plays in its 20-year vision.
CIAL Chair, Roger Lewis steps down in 2018 and as such, the business is seeking a strong successor. This is an exciting time to be leading a business that is pursuing an ambitious and sustainable growth strategy; positioning itself as a key driver of economic prosperity for Wales.
