Wales’ much loved and award-winning organisation, Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is seeking to appoint its next Head of HR as it continues on its exciting journey of change with agility and innovation at its heart.

 

A Welsh Government Sponsored Body which has 7 museums across Wales, Amgueddfa Cymru’s work is based on the principle that culture is a resource that is created by people and communities. Its collections and other resources come from the society of which it is a part and are continually renewed through its work with the public. It is accountable for its use of these resources to the nation it serves.

 

Cultural democracy underpins Amgueddfa Cymru. This was recognised nationally in 2019 when St Fagans National Museum of History was awarded the prestigious Art Fund Museum of the Year prize for demonstrating exceptional innovation, imagination and achievement, and was described as ‘a monument to modern museum democracy’. As Wales’s national museum, Amgueddfa Cymru is creating a national memory and record of the lived experiences of everyone in Wales, built upon a new model of community involvement and participation through the experiences it offers and the learning to which it contributes.

 

This is a significant and exciting opportunity for a dynamic, proactive and strategic HR professional with substantial IR and OD experience. A key appointment for Amgueddfa Cymru, you will play a central role as a member of the Museum Leadership Team (MLT) in contributing to developments across the wider organisation; providing trusted advice and guidance to the Senior Executive Team and Board of Trustees on complex people and organisation development issues whilst continuing to deliver a HR Service for its workforce.

 

The Role

  • Reporting to the Director of Finance and Corporate Resources and as Amgueddfa Cymru’s most senior HR professional, leading a Cardiff-based HR Team comprising HR Manager, 5 HR Officers and 2 HR Assistants, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering the HR service for c.600 staff across 8 sites.

 

  • You will support the continued development of Amgueddfa Cymru into an agile, innovative and high-performing organisation. You will lead the development and delivery of our HR, People Development and Equalities strategies to ensure that we have the right number of staff, with the right knowledge, skills and experience to deliver Amgueddfa Cymru’s Vision.

 

  • You will contribute to developments across Amgueddfa Cymru as an effective corporate team-player focused on the achievement of organisational goals and priorities; also building a network of peers externally to ensure Amgueddfa Cymru is able to benefit from the latest thinking in the field of HR and to build the organisation’s reputation as an exemplary employer and developer of people.

The Individual

  • You will be a Chartered Member or Fellow of the CIPD, qualified to CIPD Level 7 or with an equivalent professional management qualification with experience of having led HR teams and contributed to the development of strategy.

 

  • You will have proven experience of successfully leading organisational change programmes in a complex, multi-site, multi-disciplinary unionised environment and have extensive experience of employment law and HR best practice.

 

  • You will be an outstanding communicator with the ability to promote the purpose and strategy of Amgueddfa Cymru and be authentically passionate and excited about the history and heritage of Wales.

 

  • Ability to speak Welsh is advantageous but not essential.
